April 2011: Module Six - Chapter 4

Module Six - Chapter 4

Fabrics and threads - colouring and bonding
I ran into trouble with the procion dyeing. I painted the dye onto the fabric, put it into a plastic bag, left it overnight, and it looked a lovely colour.  But when I washed it out, most of the colour disappeared, and it left a very pale fabric - very pretty, but not the lovely rich colour it was in the plastic bag.  Obviously I need some sort of fixative - what should I use?  What I mixed up was the urea (that was in the packet) and washing  soda.  What else do I need?
